About me
Welcome to my Honors Portfolio! My name is Lawson Spence and I am currently studying Biochemistry at Drury University. As of May 2023, I will be graduating with my bachelor's degree, and I couldn't be more excited to start this new chapter in my life. During my time at Drury, I have also earned three minors, which include physics, pre-engineering, and mathematics. Additionally, I will be obtaining a professional certificate for Designing Solutions to Environmental Problems, which is a field that I find incredibly important and interesting. After my undergraduate degree, I plan to attend Saint Louis University School of Medicine where I will pursue my M.D. and later work for the United States Air Force
Aside from my academic pursuits, I also spent some time competing for Drury's Men's soccer team for one season, and for Drury men's Cross Country and track for two years. These experiences have taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and teamwork. However, my favorite courses at Drury have been advanced human physiology I and II with Dr. Don Deeds. These courses have opened my eyes to how incredible the human body really is, and I am grateful for the knowledge and insights I gained from them.
Outside of school, I like to destress by spending time with my family, reading fun books or watching movies, hanging out with friends, and spending time outdoors walking or running. I also have personal goals that I am working towards, such as learning to communicate basic information in Spanish, and maintaining a job working at a local family-owned Chinese restaurant in Ozark, Missouri.
Throughout my time at Drury, I am most thankful for how this university has further developed my curiosity and sparked my love for learning. I am excited to continue learning and growing throughout my life, and that is why I believe the vast and ever-expanding field of medicine is the perfect fit for me.
